Bessie Waneta Overpeck, age 91, passed from this life into the arms of Jesus, her Lord and Savior, on Sunday, July 16, 2023, at The Reserve in Springhill, TN. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, homemaker, and crafter. Waneta worked alongside her husband in the family business for many years. She also served in her church, Rockville First Baptist Church, in a variety of teaching, missions, and ministry areas and served in her community. She actively supported Samaritan's Purse, the Parke-Vermillion Crisis Pregnancy Centers, and cancer patients in hospitals with her homemade quilts, hats, lap robes and other handmade items donated to these organizations.

She lived the last four years in the Franklin, TN area.

Waneta was born in Adams Township (Parke County) to David and Maude (Collings) Martin on September 13, 1931. She married Wilbur “Bill” Overpeck on July 2, 1950.

Waneta is survived by two sisters, Rosetta Stover of Noblesville, IN and Judy Lafary, of Riverton, IL. She is survived by four children; Cindy Moore of Franklin, TN, Ashley (Melanie) of Rockville, IN, Doug (Regina) of Queen Creek, AZ, and Gary (Claudia) of Clinton, IN, additionally 14 grandchildren and 27 great grandchildren. She loved each one and was thrilled to spend time with all of them! Waneta also had a large extended family and many dear friends and church family.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Bill, a son, Randall Overpeck, a brother; Merle Martin, and three sisters, Lela Green, Lorene Wirth, and Mary Louise Churchill.

Services will be on Saturday, July 29,2023 at Rockville First Baptist Church, 1250 US Hwy 41 in Rockville, IN. Visitation will be from 11:30 AM to 2:00 PM with a memorial service, beginning at 2 PM to celebrate this special woman who meant so much to so many.

Barnes & Rice Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, contributions will be gratefully accepted and can be made to Rockville First Baptist Church or Alzheimer’s Association.
