Continuing Educational Scholarships for "adult" Rockville/Parke Heritage ALUMNI will become available during the summer application session (June 1st thru July 1st) of 2027. Classified as "Non-Traditional" Scholarships, (as opposed to Traditional Graduating Seniors Scholarships) there are two age related NON-TRADITIONAL scholarship categories and are open for application by Rockville/Parke Heritage alumni pursuing a two or four year degree, masters, doctorate, trade school, including professional pilot career, stewardess, chiropractic college, med school, law school, dental college, bar tender college, pharmacy, barber college, CPA DESIGNATION, CLU/Certified Financial Planner, insurance licensing, beautician college, mortician college, commercial truck driver certification, nursing school or any certification from a certified/approved school in pursuit of a self sustaining occupation or a promotion/advancement. Individual scholarships may have additional qualifications, preferences and/or area of study requirements and (good news) may possibly NOT be based solely upon grade point averages, previous achievements, nor class rankings. Preferential consideration may be given due to to financial, physical or other special needs criteria and circumstances.
APPLICATION PROCESS
Applications for POST high school graduation alumni NON-TRADITIONAL scholarships, (as well as for TRADITIONAL SCHOLARSHIPS FOR ONLY CURRENTLY GRADUATING HIGH SCHOOL SENIORS) are available thru The Parke County Community Foundation, 115 N. Market St, by contacting the administrator Colleen Hawkins Engle (class of 2007) at 765-569-7223. The application process for NON-TRADITIONAL SCHOLARSHIPS FOR ADULTS OCCURS during the "summer application session" (month of June) whereas the application process for graduating HIGH SCHOOL SENIORS applying for a TRADITIONAL scholarship is December 5th thru March 9th during their senior year. CREATING A NEW SCHOLARSHIP PROCESS LEAVE A LEGACY IN YOUR NAME
Anyone, business, organization, guest, family member or graduating class desiring to create, name and fund a traditional or non-traditional scholarship should contact the Parke County Community Foundation Administrator Colleen Hawkins Engle (class of 2007) at 765-569-7223 for additional information. If desired, Scholarships can be designated and reserved soley for Rockville/Parke Heritage Alumni and graduating seniors. Minimum financial requirements vary.
TAX DEDUCTIBLE DONATION PROCESS
Anyone wishing to make a tax deductible donation to most EXISTING scholarships or ESTABLISHED community grants may do so by contacting the Parke County Community Foundation at 765-569-7223, some with no minimums.
To reduce or avoid your income taxes, Retirees who are required by law to withdraw a Minimum Required Distribution (RMD) every year from their IRA or qualified retirement program may choose to direct some or all of their mandatory withdrawal as a tax free donation IF DISTRIBUTED DIRECTLY FROM YOUR IRA to the non- profit organization of your choice. This gives you more bang for your buck by having the government subsidize your donation by REDUCING YOUR TAXES by the percentage of your taxable income rate.
MATCHING FUNDS FROM THE LILLY ENDOWMENT INC. The Lilly Endownment Inc often matches $2 for $1 "your unspecified, non-directed, unrestricted use" donations under certain GRANTS categories and conditions, which in effect would increase (triple) your tax exempt donation to The Parke County Community Foundation in your name. (Matching does not apply to SCHOLARSHIPS donations.). You can qualify for $20,000 of matching funds into your Legacy Fund just by your donation pledge of $2,000 per year for the next 5 years. Ask about the 30 By 30 ($30k by 2030) Legacy Club Pledge. Every year only the annual interest from your Legacy Endowment Fund balance gets distributed, so your Endowment fund continues giving forever. For additional information contact Colleen Hawkins Engle or Amy Edwards.
