ROCKVILLE-Ronald Dean Matthews, 80, of Rockville, Indiana died at 7:25 pm Tuesday, May 16, 2017 at Springhill Village in Terre Haute.

He retired from Indiana Bell Telephone Company. He was born April 17, 1937 in Rockville, Indiana to the late James Matthews and Dorothy Deplanty Matthews. His wife of 42 years, Janet Sue Haddon Matthews whom he married September 22, 1956 in Brazil died August 16, 1999. 

Survivors include three daughters, Rhonda (Tom) Stein, Deanna (Dave) Setters and Angela (Mike) Stowe; one son, Donald Matthews; nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his sister, Beverly Garrard.

He was a 1955 graduate of Rockville High School. He was a member of the Rockville First United Methodist Church. Active in community affairs including the Republican party, he served on the Rockville Town Council, Rockville Community School Board, Parke County Fair Board and Parke County Election Board. He was a member past master and secretary of Parke Masonic lodge # 8, Parke County Low 12 Club and Rockville Elk's lodge #2471. He also served as the Adams Township Trustee. 

Services will be 11:00 am Saturday, May 20, at Gooch Funeral Home, 112 W. Howard Street, Rockville, with the Rev. Carl Huxford officiating. Burial will follow at Memory Garden Cemetery in Rockville. Visitation is from 5-8 pm Friday with a Masonic memorial service conducted at 7:30 pm by Parke Masonic lodge #8.
