In Memory

Harold Summerville - Class Of 1943

Known to many as "Slim", Harold's wife was Ruth Murphy Summerville (RHS 1947), one daughter Rene Summerville Jacobson (RHS 1971), and two sisters: Jean Summerville Albrecht (RHS 1945) and Doris Summerville Plymentosh (RHS 1950).  Harold graduated from Bicknell High School in 1943.  He was instrumental in building the Rockville swimming pool and the development of the Parke County Golf Course.  He was a past president of the Rockville Athletic Booster Club.  A more avid Rox supporter can not be found.  Many of us came to know Harold in his many years of service to Jacks Motors in Rockville.

Visitation is tomorrow, July 24, 2012 from 6-8pm and funeral Wed. at 11am.  Both at Barnes - Rice Funeral Home-Rockville.

Rene Kay, I am so sorry about your Dad.  I bet he and your Mom are catching up on everything and Ruth has on her red party dress.  I would have liked to know what your Dad thought about Penn State.  I am sure he had a thought or two about that deal.  He was always interested in our son playing football for  Olivet University.  He would have loved to hear about our 2 grandsons playing football for Shorter University.  When my mother passed away first, I thought her grave looked so lonely at the cemetery, and then my dad passed away and was buried next to her, even though they were divorced, I had peace knowing she was not by herself anymore.  Look and search for whatever gives you peace.  Your Dad had a good life,  he and your Mom were hard workers.  They adored you.

We all loved Nettie and Everett.  She helped raised our kids, and we always heard stories about their kids.  Our kids would loved to go over to their house and just sit and listen to stories and watch Nettie do her mending or fixing supper.  She would butter bread and sprinkle sugar on it for our kids.  They had never had that, and thought it was really good!!  One time Nettie told us she was going to 'work some apples up into applesauce'. and Dee remembered that and one day asked me to 'work some apples into a pie.'  I never made a pie in my life!!  She would keep their toys mended and make clothes for the dolls.

I have a quilt that your Dad and family gave to me when Nettie passed away.  I cherish it.  I know all the love and care that went into every single stitch.  I go out to Bono Cemetery often, and always stop at Nettie and Everett's grave and just smile at them.  The Summerville family was and still is a cherished part of my life.
