

David Leroy Sowers, 83, of Bloomingdale, passed away Wednesday, October 9, 2024, at Majestic Care of Terre Haute. He was born October 19, 1940, in Rockville, Indiana, the son of Charles Sowers Jr. and Ina “Mae” Cooper Sowers. David Married Dixie Joan Clarkston on February 25, 1962, at the Bloomingdale United Methodist Church, she died May 16, 2023.
David graduated from Rockville High School and served in the U.S. Navy. He retired from the Natural Resource Conservation Service as a Surveyor. He also worked for Hugh Banta’s abstract office and Sowers and Son Covered Bridge Tree Service He was a member of the Marshall Federated Church and attended the Bloomingdale Christian Church. He was also a member of Parke 8 Masonic Lodge of Rockville, Scottish Rite Valley of Terre Haute, and Roachdale Chapter #247 OES. David enjoyed canoeing, camping, and hunting. He was a Master Gardner, Cub Scout Leader, 4-H Leader, and junior soccer league coach. He and Dixie loved attending the sporting of events of their kids and grandkids.
David is survived by 2 sons, Mark Sowers of Bloomingdale, and John Sowers of Rockville; 3 grandsons, Spencer Sowers of Bloomingdale, Levi Pribble of Bloomingdale, and David T. Pribble (Tayler) of Sylvania. Also surviving are 9 great-grandchildren, Halianna, Preslee, Navirah, Addilynn, Kaley, Luke, Beckett, Sawyer, and Gentry; and a brother John Richard Sowers of Clinton.
He is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Dixie; son, Timothy Sowers; and daughter, Gail Sowers.
Visitation will be Tuesday, October 15, 2024, from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm, at Barnes and Rice Funeral Home, 111 East High Street, Rockville, Indiana. Masonic Memorial Services will be Tuesday at 6:00 p.m., funeral services will follow with Chaplain Ken Coffman officiating. Cremation has been chosen with inurnment at Memory Garden Cemetery in Rockville.
