Hello family and friends. We are so very sad to share that the patriarch of our family Jim Chezem passed away Tuesday morning, October 11, 2022. We are devastated that he is gone, but we are so grateful that all of his pain is too.
He was an amazing father to my sisters and I and a devoted husband to our mom. He was always the happiest when he had his family around him. I always teased him that when he won the lottery, we’d have a Chezem compound and he and moms house would be in the center with our homes around him. Then he could walk around the wraparound porch with binoculars to see what we were all doing. Now he doesn’t need those binoculars and he’ll be able keep watch over us like he always liked to do.
He and mom had some travel plans made for the winter, so mom is going to continue with those plans. She will bring him home in the spring where we’ll have a memorial service and burial.
Thank you to everyone who has prayed and sent loving thoughts through this cancer journey. We appreciate everyone of you.

James(Jim) Dale Chezem passed away on Tuesday, October 11, 2022 from a battle with lung cancer.
Jim was the 3rd born child to Hester Mae Cochran and George Douglas Chezem on March 12, 1954. He followed in his dad’s footstep and worked 29 years at Bridgeport Brass/Olin Brass and was with them until the doors closed. He worked 15 years with Carrier Commercial Service and retired in 2019.
He met the love of his life Susie while they were in high school and married in 1977. He became a dad to Bobbi and then to Marianne and Brandi. He worked so hard to make sure his family had everything that they needed.
Jim wore so many titles: husband, dad, son, brother, uncle, friend, coach, and papaw. He was always the happiest when he was surrounded by his family. When his girls were growing up he never missed a sporting event, 4-H show or anything else they needed him for. When he got son-in-law’s he treated them like his sons and was always there to teach, support and help with anything they needed. When he became a Papaw, his family was complete, and he relished having a song for each of them when they were babies.
Jim was passionate about life and always was interested in something. From riding his motorcycle, raising animals, mowing and gardening. But at the end of the day, he was most passionate about his family.
He is proceeded in death by his dad George, mom Hester and sister Rita.
He is survived by his wife, Susie, daughters Bobbi (husband Rob), Marianne (husband Greg) and Brandi (husband Chris), his brothers Douglas (husband Sam) and Bob (wife Jane), his grandchildren, Cassidi, Madison, Emilee, Aiden and Kendra, and nephews Shane, Justin, Tyler, Colt, Zach and niece Erica.
Graveside services will be 11:00 am Monday, May 15, at Memory Garden Cemetery in Rockville, with Minister Chris Wynn officiating. Inurnment will follow. Arrangements entrusted to the care of Gooch Funeral Home, Rockville.
