Steven Farner, 80, of Rockville, Indiana passed away Saturday March 7, 2026, at Tallahassee Memorial Hospital in Tallahassee, Florida. He was a retired aviation aerial applicator owning and operating Farner Helicopters. He was also a contract school bus driver for Rockville Community Schools and Turkey Run Community Schools. He was born June 30, 1945, in Joliet, Illinois to the late Kenneth Farner and Faye Hardt Farner.
Survivors include his wife of 44 years, Pamela Goetze Farner whom he married August 20, 1981in Rockville; also surviving, daughter, Michelle (Burt) Pitts of Tallahassee, Florida; stepson, Robert Lathrop of Chattanooga, Tennessee; brother, Gary (Jeanette) Husseman of Rockville; grandchildren, Chelsea Gallagher, Nathan Lathrop, Nicholas Lathrop, Madison McGady, and Aiden Pitts; three great-grandchildren, Alyvia, Keaton and Ryker.
He was a 1963 graduate of Rockville High School and received his bachelor’s degree in business administration at Indiana State University. He was a U.S. Army Cobra Pilot during the Vietnam War. Flying many missions, he received two distinguished flying cross medals and a Bronze Star for Valor for serving in Vietnam. After military service he assisted his mother in the operation of the Pastime Café for many years. He was a life member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Paul Taylor post 1752. He enjoyed many rounds of golf and corn hole with friends.
A visitation will be held 3-5 pm on Saturday May 16, at Gooch Funeral Home, 112 W. Howard Street, Rockville. Military honors will be held concluding the visitation by Parke County veterans.
