Vera Payton (Cooper)

Vera LaMoyne (Payton) Cooper, 89, a 42 year resident of Rockville, passed away peacefully at home Sunday, January 12, 2014, three days short of her 90th birthday.

She was born and raised in Rockville and was a 1942 graduate of Rockville High School. She married her husband, Max Cooper, December 30, 1945, on a snowy day at the First United Methodist Church, he preceded her in death.  For 27 years she traveled beside Max while he served in the U.S. Air Force. They retired in 1972 and built their first home back here in Rockville. Vera was a lifelong homemaker, and what a wonderful home it was. She was an active member of Otterbein United Methodist Church. She truly loved the Lord and shared that love with everyone she met. 

She was a loving mother to Shirley Flory, Joyce (Don) Voge, Lauraleen (Ralph) Gaudio and Rena (Bill) Alward; grandma and “Gma” to grandchildren, Malina (Dennis) Gillooly, Tim Flory, Lisa (Geoff) Eliason, Jonathan (Michelle) Voge, Ranessa (Bays) Gibson, Daynae Gaudio, Ryan Gaudio, Whitney Miller (Shawn-fiancée), Diamond Alward (Travis) and Tiffany Alward (Cortino); and great-grandchildren, Nakia and Aedan Flory, Emma and Logan Eliason, Lily Voge, Addison, Ainsley and Fisher Gibson, Jasper and Jaydra Alward, Breana and Blake Ledcke, along with Tina, Harley and Jojo.  She was also preceded in death by her granddaughter Rebekah Flory.

Celebration of Life Service will be at 3 p.m., Saturday, January 25 at Otterbein United Methodist Church, S.R. 59. There will be visitation from 1 to 3 p.m., before service.
