
James Alden Stillwell of Rockville, IN passed away Saturday July 12, 2025, he was 94. He is survived by his wife M. Irene Stillwell, 84, his sons Dean, 64, Jamie, 58, and Michael, 53, and his daughter Karen, 63. He has one great grandchild, Ellison, and five grandchildren, Ashlee, Sarah, Sophia, Rachel and Chloe.
Jim was born in 1931 in Los Angeles, CA. He was a 1949 graduate of Sunnyside High School in Washington State. He attended Washington State University for one year before transferring to Purdue University in 1950. Jim left school for a short time and was drafted into the Army. He served two years in Germany where he ran the first A. Y. A. youth camp for military service families. He traveled extensively while stationed in Europe. Jim returned to Purdue University after being honorably discharged from the Army, earning a BS degree in Agriculture in 1956. For a short time after graduation, he worked as a manager at a Thrifty Drug Store in California. He married Marry Irene Shannon in 1961. Upon moving to Washington State, he worked a short time for Boeing, and the Washington Game and Wildlife Department. In 1966 he became an Ag teacher/FFA at Wapato High School and taught there until 1978. In 1978 he moved his family to Indiana where he taught Ag at Rockville Jr/Sr High School, coached junior high and high school football and was the FFA advisor until 1992. Following his retirement, he was active in church and ministers' groups and obtained his ministers' license from Indiana Wesleyan University.
Services will be 1:00 pm Friday, July 18, 2025, at Gooch Funeral Home 112 W. Howard Street, Rockville, Indiana with Pastor Gene Walls officiating. Visitation will be 11:00 am to 1:00 pm on Wednesday at Gooch Funeral Home. He will be laid to rest in the veterans' section at Roselawn Memorial Park in Terre Haute, Indiana.
