Lester C. Marshall - Class Of 1900

Lester Cross Marshall, Rockville High School class of 1900 matriculated to Purdue University where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering in 1904. Lester was born 25 Mar 1882 in Parke County, Indiana. He was the son of Mahlon Woody Marshall (1838-1926) and his second wife, Rhoda Hadley (1855-1889).

Mahlon, a Quaker at the time, enlisted and served in the 85th Indiana Indiana during the Civil War. Mahlon's four brothers and his father, Alfred Marshall (~1809-1869), also enlisted in Indiana regiments with the exception of one brother who enlisted with an Iowa regiment. According to Mahlon's obituary published in the Rockville Republican, Marshall, Indiana's name was "conferred in honor of Mr. Marshall in 1878 when the railroad came and the surrounding forest was transformed into a town." Mahlon had once owned much of the land the town was built upon.

Lester was married to Lynn Merey Gold, born 1886 in Ohio. They married 22 Nov 1909 in Jasper County, Missouri. They lived in Baxter County, Arkansas during the early years of their marriage but later moved to Missouri. On 30 Nov 1950, Lester died in Kansas City, Clay County, Missouri. Lester and his wife Lynn never had children.

Lester Cross Marshall is my second cousin three times removed.
