Kelley Anne Dowd (Stites) Hopkins, 37, of Rockville, died at 8:37 p.m., Friday, July 10, 2009, in her residence. She was born Aug. 12, 1971, in Clinton, to Larry and Paula Stites, who survive. Kelley was a 1989 graduate of Rockville High School, and received a degree in education from Indiana State University in 1994. Kelley competed in both track and cross-country while at ISU. While teaching special education at Lyons Elementary School in Houston, she earned a master's degree in educational psychology from the University of Houston. Kelley later taught special education at South Vermillion High School and Middle School. She also coached cross-country at Rockville High School. She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Earl and Mary Etta Dowd, and William and Catherine Stites. She also is survived by one son, Lance Hopkins; two brothers, Christopher Sean Stites and Michael Stites; one sister, Mary (John) Pierce; one nephew, Brandon Pierce; two nieces, Deven Stites and Morgan Pierce; four aunts, Elizabeth (Randy) Wright, Vickie Jackson, Betty (Dan) Gower, and Linda (Joe) Ratcliff; four uncles, Glen (Ruth) Stites, Joe (Brenda) Stites, Don (Vickie) Stites, and John (Susan) Dowd; and many cousins. Services will be 10 a.m. Thursday, July 16, 2009, at Rockville First United Methodist Church, Market and York streets, with the Rev. Ed Fisher officiating. Burial will follow at Memory Garden Cemetery. Visitation will be at the church from 4 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, July 15, 2009. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Sharon Bassett Foundation or the Lance Hopkins Scholarship Fund at Old National Bank in Rockville. Care and arrangements entrusted to Gooch Funeral Home. 

 

 

 

 

 

Fellow alumni Kelly Dowd Stites Hopkins (89) passed away yesterday after a long battle with cancer.   Kelly is the daughter of fellow alumni Paula Dowd Stites (66) and the granddaughter of  Judge Earl and Marrietta Dowd.  Kelly has a young son, Lance.

May she rest in peace.

Mary Jane Allbright (Evens) (1970)

Kelly loved her son so very much and raised him to be a very nice young man. She was such a kind person and will be missed by everyone, especially her church family.
