ROCKVILLE-Charles Allen Cooper, 88, of Rockville, Indiana passed away at 1:28 am Friday, October 2, 2020 in his residence. He was the retired president of the former Parke State Bank in Rockville. He was also an elected two term Sheriff of Parke County from 1958-1966. 

He was born October 23, 1931 in Rockville to the late Merrill Cooper and Nina Mae Bachelder Cooper . 

Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Sue Ann Webster Cooper whom he married July 7, 1957; also surviving, one son, Jeff (Brenda) Cooper; son-in-law, Keith Mallett; sister, Helen Biggerstaff; grandchildren, Lindsay (Billy Bettis) Berry, Ashley (Matt) Vauters, Brandon (Morgan Harbison) Cooper and Jack Brown; great-grandchildren, Landon Berry, Nora and Ruby Vauters; He was preceded in death by a daughter, Beth Brown Mallett; grandson, Preston Parish; son-in-law, Barr Brown; brothers, Royce, Ralph, Virgil and John Cooper; sisters, Evelyn Cooper, Alberta Spencer and Lois Jean Wood. 

He was a 1949 graduate of Rockville high School and served from 1952-1954 with the U.S. Army in Korea. Returning home he and his brother John operated Cooper’s Garage. He later worked in Coal Mines for Victor Linton running heavy equipment. He was a member of Parke Masonic lodge #8, Parke County Low 12 Club, American Legion Fellenzer post 48 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Paul Taylor post 1752. Charles farmed most of his life and enjoyed the time spent with his son on the farm. He and his family operated a Bed and Breakfast and the Historic Billie Creek Village for many years. He also enjoyed horses, raising cattle and spending time with his family. 

Services will be 2:00 pm Tuesday, October 6, at Gooch Funeral Home, 112 W. Howard Street, Rockville, with Pastor Gene Walls officiating. Burial with military graveside honors by Parke County veterans will follow in Memory Garden Cemetery. Visitation is from 12 noon until 2:00 pm Tuesday at Gooch Funeral Home.
