He loved teaching and most recently was a caseworker for Putnam County DCS, where he made a lasting impact on all who encountered him. Mike was a member of the Bethel Baptist church in Greencastle. He was a giving soul with the biggest heart and leaves behind an incredible legacy, that he didn’t even realize he was building. He was a humble, strong willed, brilliant man; confident in his words and opinions, always speaking his mind and as the stories roll in from his many friends, that is what made him, him and so special to all of us.

Mike was a movie buff if there ever was one and loved everything Star Wars. Mike was an avid sports fan; his favorites included the Dallas Cowboys, the Dodgers, fantasy football, UFC fighting, his niece’s softball/volleyball games and anything IU.

Mike is survived by a son, Tyler Martin of Michigan; his parents, Ruth and Glen Stites of Montezuma; 2 sisters, Beckie Martin of North Manchester, and Heather Willhite (Jason) of Eminence; 3 nieces, Brenna and Alayna Willhite of Eminence, and Kimberly Acres of New Castle; a nephew, Michael Ecker (Chelsie David) of North Manchester; and his adoring fur babies, Leia and Solo. Also surviving are aunts, uncles, cousins and an abundance of very close and special friends.

He is preceded in death by his great grandparents (Ben and Inez Eppert), grandparents (Bud and Phyllis Spivey), aunts and uncles (Phyllis and Monte Duvall, Deb and Randy Stroup, Judy Luke), Cousin Jackie Kay and his beloved dog Chewy.

Cremation has been chosen with a celebration of life to be scheduled at a later date. Care is entrusted to Barnes and Rice Funeral Home of Rockville.
