Edith Havey, class of 1938, joined the WAVES on November 4, 1943. Edith and her sister Virginia RHS 37, enlisted at Terre Haute, Indiana in the Wabash Valley,
Julia Lambert Wave Platoon. Twenty three in number and most leaving home for
the first time.
After basic
training she was sent to Indiana University for three months in the Navy
training school for storekeepers. From there she was sent to Cecil Field,
Jacksonville, Florida and received her discharge from the Navy there in
February of 1946.
The WAVES were established, July 30, 1942. Waves, (Women Accepted for
Volunteer Emergency Service).
Edith died in 2007
