Gerald S. Woodard, 91, Bloomington, passed away peacefully at Garden Villa Health in Bloomington with his loving wife, Georgia, by his side at 10:10 p.m. on Wednesday, November 21, 2012.Gerald was born on Thursday, June 23, 1921, in Rockville, Indiana, the son of Linus and Lena Woodard.Gerald graduated from Rockville High School in 1939 and graduated from Indiana University in 1943. He then served in the Army from 1943-1946. After his discharge from the Army he received his Master’s Degree from Indiana University in 1948.Gerald married the love of his life, Georgia Ingram, on December 26, 1948, in Rockville. After their wedding they lived for a short time in Georgia, moved to Bloomington in 1950 and have lived here ever since. Gerald was awarded the Sagamore of The Wabash by Governor Evan Bayh on December 18, 1989. He retired from Indiana University as Editor and Head of Publication Section of Geological Survey after 39 years of service in 1990. Following retirement, he volunteered with the VITAL program at the Monroe County Library for several years and with Bloomington Hospital for ten years.Gerald was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, John Woodard. Gerald is survived by Georgia, his wife of 63 years.There will be no public service. Cremation is being handled by the Southern Indiana Cremation Society, LLC of Martinsville, Indiana.
