Dr. Claude Nelan Thompson passed away peacefully July 17, 2012. His family was by his side.

Dr. Thompson was born Jan. 26, 1928, in Parke County, to Anita and Cecil Thompson.

Dr. Thompson graduated from Rockville High School in 1946. He then graduated from Indiana University and the Indiana University School of Medicine in 1954. Following medical school, he served in Japan as a lieutenant physician in the Air Force for two years.

Dr. Thompson was the beloved doctor in Waynetown and the surrounding area for 35 years. He retired in 1992.

He married Bobbye Jean Masters in 1962. She survives. The have two children, Elizabeth Thompson Herrin, married to Blake Herrin of Huntsville, Ala., and James Monte Thompson who is married to Suzanne Thompson of Crawfordsville. He was blessed with six beautiful grandchildren, Will, Sam and Jay Herrin and Andrew, Davis and Kristen Thompson. He is also survived by one sister, Anita June Dickerson and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Nolan Thompson and a nephew Stan Thompson.

Dr. Thompson belonged to the United Methodist Church. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather.

There will be a visitation on Thursday at First United Methodist from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. The celebration of life service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at First United Methodist Church.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be directed to the Montgomery County Community Foundation, Dr. Claude Thompson Fund, P.O. Box 334, Crawfordsville, IN 47933. The Claude Thompson fund was established in his memory to benefit the Montgomery County Dr. Mary Ludwig Free Clinic.
