Robert Vincent

Robert Vance Vincent, 85, of Montezuma, passed away Tuesday, April 7, 2020 at Union Hospital in Clinton. Born May 17, 1934 in Rockville, he was the son of Wm. J. and Wilda I. Vincent.

Bob graduated from Rockville High School in 1952 and joined the Navy in April of 1954. He served four years and shortly after his discharge, married Mary Jane (Burge) Carlton in Viola, Iowa on April 5, 1958.

Bob worked for his dad, Jack Vincent and with Paul Newton. When Jack retired, Bob and Paul bought Parke County Oil Company and the two served Parke County until 1980 when the business was sold. Bob worked a short time for Farm Bureau and then retired from the Highway Garage.

Bob enjoyed gardening, even the weeding, and collecting coins. He also collected guns and studied the history of firearms. When his son Rob joined the Boy Scouts, Bob assisted TV Thomas. He later served as a board member. He was a 50-year member of Montezuma Masonic Lodge.

Bob is survived by his wife of 62 years, Mary Jane Vincent and two sons, Robert J. (Shelly) Vincent and Michael V. (Sabrina) Vincent. He was also blessed with grandchildren, Shane (Jessica) Divine, Christa (Jerry) Stultz, Jordan (Linda) Vincent, Megan (Jeremy) Kincaid, Braxton, Cooper and Marshal Vincent ; and great grandchildren, Curtis, Ella and Josie Stultz and Briggs Divine.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Jackie Cloyd and daughter, Elizabeth “Sam” Mershon.

His greatest joy in life was his family and friends. He often said, “if I had to do it over again, I wouldn’t change a thing”.

Cremation was chosen and a memorial service will be held at the Independent Bible Church in Montezuma at a later date. Arrangements entrusted to the care of Barnes and Rice Funeral Home of Rockville. Online condolences may be made at barnesandrice.com.
