ROCKVILLE- Elizabeth F. Tyler, 98, of Rockville passed away at 5:55 a.m., Thursday, March 4, 2010 at The Waters of Clinton. She was a retired school teacher and taught for 26 years in the Parke County school system. In later years, she was also involved with her husband in Luther Tyler Oliver Sales and Service in Bellmore. She was born June 20, 1911 in Edgar County, Ill., the oldest daughter of Grant V. and Mary E. Mering Farrington.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, James Luther Tyler, whom she married Nov. 26, 1937 and died Dec. 9, 2003.
She is survived by her daughter, Mary Anne Jones and her husband Robert of Rockville; two grandsons, Rob Jones and his wife Kara of Bloomington, Ill. and Derek Jones and his wife Ann of Tipp City, Ohio; one great-grandson, Benjamin Jones of Tipp City, Ohio; two sisters, Ruth Nichols of South Bend, Ind., and Esther Fessant of Vermillion, Ill. and several nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by one granddaughter, Amy Roseanne Jones Dec. 20, 1995; one brother and two sisters.
She was a Rockville High School graduate and attended Indiana State Teachers College. She was a member of Estabrook Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution, a 50 year member of Montezuma Chapter 537 Order of the Eastern Star and Parke County Retired Teachers Association.
Service will be 10 a.m. Monday, March 8, 2010 at Gooch Funeral Home, 112 West Howard Street, Rockville, IN with Pastor Ed Fisher officiating. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday, March 7, 2010 at Gooch Funeral Home. Burial will follow services at Memory Garden Cemetery in Rockville.

Max Higgs (1968)

I had Mrs. Tyler as my 3rd and 4th grade teacher in Bellmore. The 2 grades were in one room together, 3rd grade on the left and 4th grade on the right. Mrs. Tyler would alternate subjects between the classes during the day. I recall Mrs. Tyler as my favorite grade school teacher. She was mild and steady as you go with her teaching and almost always supportive of her students. I believe she lived north of Bellmore at the time. She will be dearly missed.......
