Barret Dodd Porter passed peacefully on September 08, 2014. Dodd was born December 12, 1938 to Madonna (Dodd) "Gran" and Barret Dale Porter. He spent much of his childhood with his Grandparents, Celia Bell Bonta "Mommy" and Ralph Porter "Poppy." He was very proud of his Grandfather who was an Indiana State Senator. 

Dodd graduated from Rockville High School in 1956. He continued his education at Indiana State University, receiving a Bachelors of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering. He spent most of his career working for IBM and later Columbia House.

Dodd married Rebecca Joan (Smiley) on November 11, 1962. They have two sons: Barret Dane (Laura DeVore) of Carmel, IN and B. Dirk (Kathie Moore) of Danville, IL. They have one grandson, Barret Eli Porter, also of Carmel. 

Dodd was an avid outdoorsman, having spent much of his childhood roaming the grounds of Turkey Run State Park and later most of Parke County. He loved hunting whitetail deer and held the 1986 Indiana record for whitetail buck in archery. Dodd also enjoyed taking his faithful companion and devoted bird dog, Sally, to the Royal Flush and other areas to point birds. His love of the outdoors combined with his interest in history led him to a hobby of collecting Native American Artifacts. One would say that Dodd had a passion for the game of golf; always striving to improve. The game would later become a comfort to him when he was no longer physically fit to hit the links, watching many hours on television.

Dodd was a man of strong convictions who held a warm spot in his heart for his family, his hometown of Rockville and his best friend, Denny Conklin. We should all be so lucky to have a friend like Denny, who faithfully visited Dodd three days a week the past year.

Those who will remember Dodd fondly are his sister, Patti Lewis; niece, Stephanie (Lewis) White; great niece and nephews, Emma & Jake White and Jaylan Kerr.
 

Dodd was preceded in death by his grandparents, parents and niece Tricia (Lewis) Kerr.

As per Dodd's wishes, there will be no services. A private inurnment will take place at a later time.
