So sorry to hear that Betsy passed. Look forward to seeing her again when I also pass. We have only a little time in this world but through Christ we have eternity.

So sad to hear of Betsy's passing.  Paper dolls, slumber parties, birthday parties, Triple Trio, the Corner Store, Rainbow Girls, The Yourh Center, The Ritz, Hours in the library, Summer Book Club, and double dates.  So many happy memories. ๐Ÿ’” ♥๏ธ  So so incredibly smart.  I am certain she is on God's advisory panel๐Ÿ™๐Ÿ™

Oh so sad..I remember picnics at her parents' farm. First time I rode a horse. 'Buck' assured me all would be fine, haven't ridden much since! I worked some afternoons in 'Buck' law office..loved the experiece and trying to listen to the 'gossip' behind those sliding oak doors. Betsy had a life well lived. Her purpose was an inspiration. Betsy Alden (Rutledge) (1960)

I just learned of "Betsy B"'s passing. She was my "BFF" before we knew that term, as we grew up on College Street, exchanging books, having frequent sleepovers, trying to "catch" each other in grammatical errors, and, in high school, going to the State Latin and English Contests at IU (under the watchful eyes of Miss Julia Overpeck and Susie Lee Cummings.)  Betsy won GOLD Medals for four years straight!.)  We sang in the Presbyterian Church choir together, traded boyfriends, and passed notes between classes (which I kept and sent to her years later, to both our embarrassment!)

Later, we stayed in touch as I again followed in her footsteps to IU for Masters in English, then we graduated the same year (1978) from Law School (her) and Divinity School (me)--both in the Southwest.

She was my bff, role model, and mentor as we navigated the early years of feminism, motherhood, and professional careers, and whenever we caught up with each other, we found we were enjoying the same new books and films and continuing our mutual love of travel and learning.The words from this hymn we often sang consoles me now...

 Blest be the tie that binds
our hearts in Christian love;
the fellowship of kindred minds
is like to that above.

When we are called to part,
it gives us inward pain;
but we shall still be joined in heart,
and hope to meet again.
