Everett Smith

Everett D. Smith, 71, of rural Bloomingdale, passed away Saturday, January 17 at Union Hospital in Terre Haute, IN.  Born November 12, 1943 in Paris, Illinois, he was the son of Clyde and Golda (Shafer) Smith. His wife, Patricia Smith, whom he married August 5, 1967 in Crawfordsville, survives.

He was a 1961 Turkey Run High School graduate and a graduate of Indiana State University, earning a MS degree in Chemistry. He taught at Rockville High School for 31 years and for many summers he ran the detasseling crews.  Having grown up on the family farm, he always had a love of farming and the outdoors.

He enjoyed mushroom hunting and gardening.     He was an active member of Immanuel Southern Baptist Church as well as a board member of Parke County Farm Bureau and Emergency management.

Other survivors include a son, Chad Smith of rural Bloomingdale; daughter, Amy Trapman of Rockville and three grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Angus Smith.

Visitation will be held at Butler Funeral Home 218 N. College St. Rockville at 4-8 PM on Wednesday, January 21, 2015. Funeral services will be conducted at Immanuel Southern Baptist Church at 11 AM on Thursday, January 22 with Pastor Mark Houvenagle officiating.

Visitation will be one hour, prior to service. Burial will follow at Memory Garden Cemetery in Rockville.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials to honor Everett's life be made to Immanuel Baptist Church, 3932 West US 36, P.O. Box 132 Rockville, IN 47872. Envelopes will be available at the Funeral Home and the Church.
