Danny Ray “Doc” Ross, 57, of Covington passed away on Friday, March 6, 2015, at St. Vincent Hospital in Williamsport, Ind. 

He was born Nov. 9, 1957, at Clinton to George F. and Audrey L. (Becklehimer) Ross, and they preceded him in death.

Danny was baptized at the Rockville Christian Church. He graduated from Rockville High School in 1975. Danny was a radio announcer at WAXI, Rockville when the station first went on the air in 1977. Known in the Wabash Valley as “Baby Bear” or “Golden Tones.”

Danny married Teresa Lynn Heiney on April 18, 1982, and she survives. He also radio announced at WCVL, Crawfordsville and WIAI, Danville, Ill. He later worked for several years for CSX Railroad where his moniker became “Doc” (Dr. Ross). His favorite activities included listening to big band music, attending auctions and watching old movies.

He loved his wife of 32 years, his children, sisters and extended family.

He is survived by son, Brandon D. Ross of Lafayette; daughter, Amber E. Ross of Holland, Mich.; and two sisters, Ruth Ann Ross of Indianapolis and Carolyn Copple of Rockville. 

Danny was preceded by two brothers, George F. Ross Jr. and Archie Ross.

Memorial visitation will be from 2-6 p.m. Saturday, March 14, 2015, at the Butler Funeral Home, 218 N. College St., Rockville, IN. Per Danny’s wishes, cremation has been chosen.

Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association, envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
