Debbie was one of my best friends, and I'll always remember her energy!
She fought a long and hard battle against Hodgekin's Disease and passed at the young age of 26. It was hard, for all of us who knew her, to see her go through all the complications of the disease. But her attitude and bravery were pure "Debbie" as she reassured us and always made plans for the future.
I often think of her and the good times we had together.

I will always remember Debbie's smile, she was a great person and friend and cheerleader.

It makes my heart hurt when I think of Debra. She could crack me up so could her brother David. What sticks in my mind is the fact that my back yard joined Debby's back yard and Mary Collings Hanner lived like two doors away when she was the sickest. I remember going to see her together and individually and she was still so fun. I am glad she had classmates as neighbors. I can remember Curly calling me and saying Debbie was gone and both of us crying on the phone. Curly asked me to line up Pallbearers so I made five phone calls and got five absolute positive replies not one person was too busy or could not make it.
That's the class of 1974! Looking at her picture and her smile she still can crack me up.

My first recollection of Debbie is of me being afraid of her in kindergarten, although I don't recall why.  She was a year older than me, which, I suppose, seemed a lot older when I was four.  Considering what a nice girl I knew her to be in later years, I can't imagine what was so scary.

I also recall how sad I was for Debbie when she lost her mother in grade school.  I remember how hard that was for her.

Most of all, though, I recall her smile.  Debby was one of the most friendly girls in school and always seemed to have a smile for everyone.  I wasn't around Rockville much during the last years of her life, but my mother got to know her very well during Debbie's last months and let me know how fond of Debbie she became.  I miss her and am sure her death was a great loss to her other classmates.
