Melvin lived in the same farm community where I grew up east of Rockville close to US36. As kids we used to have corncob fights in the Spurr's barn with his 3 brothers, sister and my brother. We played for keeps and I remember many a bruise from those fun games. Melvin was always a kind polite person. He served in the Army and in Viet Nam for which we all owe him our gratitude.

Melvin and I were best friends growing up.  He, I, and his brothers put up hay for a lot of farmers in the area.  We had a lot of good times.  His Mother was instrumental in helping me after my Mother passed in 66'.  We were in Vietnam together but never got to see each other.  After he left "in country" I stayed for another 4 years in and out.  When we saw each other back here in the "world" in or around 71', I was headed back there and he was farming his family's place.  He was the best person I could have known at that time and was always in a good mood and a loving father.  I will always miss his smiling face and the unstoppable energy he had.  I know God has a special place for him.
