Billy Gene Hill 66 (1966)

It was a sad day when Don past away from a brain tumor in 2003 at the age of 55. It's always hard to loose a good friend and one of the gang. Don was a Theta Chi Fraternity brother at Indiana State University to myself, Ron Barnes, Steve Hartman, Bob Lewis, Bob Baxter, and Don Phillips.
Don was married to Gloria Hartman from Clinton. They have two grown children, Eric and Meagan. Gloria is a teacher in Hilton Head, South Carolina.
He is survived by his wife, two children, his father, Ray, and his sister, Janet (64). Don's mother, Alta, passed away last year.

In rememberance of a very good friend. I will never forget all the good times we had setting on the front porch of the Shoemaker house and enjoying the times of the 1960's. I will always remember him as a fun loving friend and compadre.

My memories of Don are from when we were very young since my family left Rockville when I was 8 years old. We lived next door to the Shoemakers on Howard Avenue. Don was my best pal. Every afternoon we used to watch Spanky and our Gang and the Mickey Mouse Club together. It was especially exciting when a Hardy Boys series was playing. One time Don dressed up like a baby and I pushed him around in an old carriage we found. He was such a sport - we had a lot of laughs even at such a young age. I know he must have matured to be a great guy and wonderful husband and father. I'm sorry I will never have the opportunity to renew our relationship. I enjoyed reading the words well spoken by his adult friends. It seems he was as lucky to have you as you him.

Don and I were the very best of friends from Third grade on. Every growing up experience we experienced together. We cut our fingers to become blood brothers(He told me that his illness must have come from my blood), we roomed together at ISU and were fraternity brothers, and were best man in each others wedding. Don married Gloria who is my first cousin. They have two children, Eric and Megan and two grand children. I loved Don Shoemaker and to this day think of him daily. He was by far the best person that was ever in my life. He loved life and lived it loving family, friends and the many young people he influenced as a teacher and head master. He showed that love even as he wrote his many friends of his conditon proclaiming how lucky he was to have us in his life. WE ARE THE LUCKY ONES!!!!

I can't tell you how lucky I feel to have known Don as I did. We were 'a couple,' our senior year ('66) and I truly loved him. He had a sense of humor that was incredible and a zest for life that was untouchable. Such a smart, funny person! I feel so blessed to have known him so well. Thank you Don for the many memories and special times we shared. You have a wonderful family who I know miss you dearly as we all do. God love you, Gloria, Megan and Eric. Rest peacefully, dear friend.
