Dave Skelton (1966)

Jim was a close friend of mine, when we were growing up.  We played baseball together from Little Leadue until we graduated from RHS.  We spent time reminiscing at our 50th reunion 5 years ago.  This is truly a sad day for me.  Rest In Peace, my friend.

Don Phillips (1966)

Jimmy and I lived in the same neighborhood after we moved to town from the country.  Like Dave Skelton, we all played baseball together from Little League, Babe Ruth and High School together.  If I remember right, his first little dog that I remember was named Timmy who went everywhere with him. I had just seen him about five or six years ago at ACE Hardware in Rockville.  Being a painter, he helped me select some paint that I needed for my home.  RIP my friend.

I remember Jim all the way through school, and when we moved back to Rockville in 1974, he was our mailman. Jim was always around with a friendly hello. After reading Don Phillips's remarks, I fondly remember his dog Timmy coming to so many of Jim's games. Football might have been Timmy's favorite sport causing several whistles during the games to remove the little black and white dog from the field. This was way before dogs had to be on a leash. We would see Timmy uptown or at the park and know that Jim was somewhere around. I like to think they are together again.  May they Rest In Peace.

Echoing my classmates’ memories, I specifically remember an episode where Timmy was smuggled into the Driver’s Ed car with Jim and a couple of other students.   I assume coach Smith knew he was in the back seat with us, but he never said anything about it.

RIP, Jim, you will be remembered.

Jim (Sammy) Crafton was one of the Jackson St gang along with The Lohrman brothers, The Bradfields and the  Myers gang. We grew up at a great time in a great place. Jim was a gifted baseball player and a real attribute to Rockville. Jim was our mailman for many years and always had an easy, friendly smile. I remember when he got his brand new Chevelle SS 396. It was a beauty. Jim was so proud of that car. He worked hard to get it. I’ll miss Jim and pray he is walking in peace and rest.

When I received the recent message about Jim's passing, I was immediately transported back to the years when we were growing up on Jackson St. He and Timmy were a fixture on our street - a boy and his dog.  I remember seeing them so many times walking down the street together.  In the summer, Jim would be in his baseball uniform, and Timmy always fathfully by his side.  I realize now that it was a wonderful time and place to be a kid.

I trust they have been reunited at that Rainbow Bridge.  No doubt Timmy has been patiently waiting there all these years for his best friend to come along.  What a reunion that must have been!

My condolences to Jimmy's extended family on his passing. He was such a good man. Always nice and humble. One of the things that made me chuckle were the comments about Timmy. He loved that dog. RIP, Jimmy.
