I'm sure I wasn't one of Mrs. Noblitt's favorite students! I was the one who thought it was dumb to make a 3-corner scarf to wear on my head and cared even less about making a gathered skirt. The year we made gathered skirts, she had a style show for all of our (non-working) moms and we were to "model" our newly made skirt. I so hated that day! Imagine the shock on poor Mrs. Noblitt's face when she discovered just before the style show that I had never made the button hole nor had I sewn the button onto the skirt. She made it very clear that I was in deep doo-doo. To this day, I hate to sew and have been known to hem with scotch tape!

When we started cooking in home ec, I was a more willing participant and redeemed myself with Mrs. Noblitt (except for the day that Edda Jane and I ate ALL of the chocolate chip cookies we had made)!

She tried really hard to teach me to sew and I did not want to. I remember the fights with my Mother about Home Ec. class because she couldnt' understand why I didn't like to sew. I also remember those awful gathered skirts and mine was pitiful. I remember learning to make hot chocolate in that class and thought it was delicious.

MRS NOBLITT JUST GAVE UP ON ME. WE HAD TO CAN TOMATOES, OF ALL THINGS. I COULDNT EVEN BOIL WATER. WHEN WE WERE GOING TO COOK, WE HAD TO GO TO THE GROCERY STORE FIRST THING IN THE MORNING. TWO OF US WERE ASSIGNED TO DO THAT. WE HAD TO MAKE OUT OUR OWN SHOPPING LIST. WE HAD UNITS WE COOKED IN. THEN WHEN IT CAME TO SEWING, THAT WAS ALSO A DISASTER. I MADE A YELLOW BLOUSE. TWO SIZES TOO BIG AND SOMEHOW I HANDLED IT SO MUCH I COULDNT GET THE DIRT OUT OF IT. WHEN WE WERE ALL DONE WITH OUR BLOUSES, WE ALL HAD TO WEAR THEM TO SCHOOL. MY MOTHER WAS THOROUGHLY DISCUSSED WITH ME FOR NOT TRYING HARDER. WELL.....I TRIED AS HARD AS I COULD. I DIDNT GET AN F BUT I GOT A C-. I REALLY LOVED MRS. NOBLITT AS A PERSON. SHE WAS A NEAT LADY.
