David Gibbs

David L. Gibbs, 68, of Terre Haute, died in his home Wednesday, November 20, 2019. He was born in South Bend to Walter Gibbs and Evelyn Gooch Gibbs on March 3, 1951. David married Glenna Goforth in 1978 and they shared 41 years together.

David is survived by his wife, Glenna Gibbs; sister, Lisa Wilcox (Jim); brother, Mark Gibbs (Sonja); mother-in-law, Barbara Goforth; brothers-in-law Kerry Goforth (Cindy) and Doug Goforth (Pam); many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, and cousins. David was preceded in death by his parents and his father-in-law, Jim Goforth.

David was a lifelong Christian, an accomplished musician, an educator, and a student. He earned a Masters in Music Education from Indiana State University. David has accompanied thousands of students while working as a staff accompanist at ISU, a choir director and band director at several schools throughout Indiana and the Wabash Valley including Benton Central, West Vigo High School, St. Patrick, and South Vermillion. David served as choir director at Rose Hulman, Director of Music at Memorial United Methodist Church for 16 years, and played organ at the church for 38 years where he and Glenna attended. His talent was not limited to music, however, and David earned a degree in accounting and worked as an accountant briefly before returning to music education. He was the accompanist for Farrington Grove Chorale, Master Works Chorale at ISU, and Men of Note, and he was a member of the Federation of Musicians.

Funeral services for David will be held 2:00 PM Sunday, November 24 at Memorial United Methodist Church, 2701 E Poplar Street, with Reverend Scott Johnson officiating. David will be cremated with burial to follow at a later date in Bales Cemetery, Dana, IN. Visitation will be held from 5:00 – 8:00 PM Saturday, November 23 in the church. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Memorial United Methodist Church, or the Terre Haute Humane Society. Arrangements are under direction of Callahan & Hughes.
