Mavis "Joan" (Gross) Sheets-Handley, age 84 of Crawfordsville passed away on Tuesday, September 7, 2021 at Hickory Creek of Crawfordsville. She was born in Ferndale, Indiana on May 17, 1937 to the late David Alonzo & Helen Gertrude (Spencer) Gross.

Joan graduated from Bellmore High School in 1955. On September 30, 1955, she married William F. Sheets Jr, who preceded her in death on February 15, 2000. On October 7, 2006 she married Gerald Handley, who preceded her in death on March 30, 2017.

She was a member of Liberty Chapel Church, Adult class ladies aide, Near & Far Extension Homemakers Association, Eagles Auxiliary and American Legion Auxiliary. She loved to cook, can, bake, make candies, and take care of her garden.
She is survived by a brother, Wallace Gross; many nieces and nephews, and her best friend Hazel Demoret-Staggs.

She is preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, William Sheets Jr; her second husband, Gerald Handley; her son, Timothy Paul Sheets; her daughter, Linda Sue Hargis; and two brothers, Gerald and Melvin Gross.

Visitation will be at Sanders Priebe Funeral Care, 315 S Washington St, in Crawfordsville on Monday, September 13, 2021 from 12:00pm till the time of the funeral service at 2:00pm.
