Miss Alberta is a crown jewel of Parke County and will be missed by so many of her students over her 40 year teaching career.  May God Bless her and the Butler family!

I was so blessed to have Mrs. Alberta Butler as my fourth grade teacher.  I still remember happy days in her classroom.  One of my favorite times was listening to her read to the class.  She made the books come alive as she read.  She is one of the reasons I decided to become a teacher.   She was a role model for my teaching life and my walk with the Lord.  She was a wonderful Christian lady.  I cherish the friendship I developed with her over the years.    Keeping the Butler family in my prayers.

The genealogy collection at Rockville Public Library will be named for Alberta T. Butler, longtime board member of the library, member of the  Parke County Historical Society and member of the Wabash Valley Genealogical Society.  Mrs. Butler passed away July 24, 2013. This will be celebrated on Saturday, March 8 at 1 pm at the library.  The public is welcome and encouraged to come.

The collection is popular with researchers looking for their Parke County roots and access to area history.  Hundreds of volumes, newspapers on microfilm, maps, photographs, family histories, birth/death records, and cemetery abstracts are in the collection.

These records enable the library to provide assistance and source material, some of which can only be found in Rockville Public Library’s collections.

Library staff and board members work to ensure that certain old and irreplaceable records of local and regional history are preserved for the future and made available for those with questions.  Many requests for this information are received by the library daily, and the Alberta T. Butler Local History and Genealogy Room will help meet the needs of the public.
