Richard S. Bloomer Dr. (President)

Dr. Richard S. Bloomer, born-Jan. 25, 1914, died-Feb. 7, 2001. He was born in Rockville at a home on College St. to Dr. Joseph Bloomer and Lula Bloomer. Married Betty Glore Bloomer in 1939, 5 children. He was a general practicioner in Parke County for more than 61 years. He attended grade school (skipping the 2nd grade) and high school in Rockville; 1937 graduate of IU School of Medicine in Indianapolis. Joined his father's practice in 1938 after serving his internship at IU Med. Center. Also on staff at former state TB hospital. Served in WW II with the Army Medical Corps at Fort Know, Ky., Camp Atterbury in Indiana, and with the 11th General Hospital in England, leaving the service in 1946, with the rank of lieutenant colonel. Served on staff of former Vermillion County Hosp. in Clinton, and Union Hospital in Terre Haute. He was the Parke County health officer for many years, a member of Rockville First United Methodiat Church, Parke-Vermillion County Medical Society, life member of the American Academy of Family Physicians, Member of Phi Kappa Psi fraternity, Parke Lodge 8 Free & Accepted Masons, Scottish Rite Valley of Terre Haute, Rockville Rotary Club and Paul Taylor Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1752, charter member of the Rockville Elk's Lodge 2471. His office, located in the Rockville Historical District, now known as the "Bloomer House", serves as the office of the Parke County Community Foundation.
