Inez Overpeck (McMurtry (Sec. ))

Inez L. McMurtry, 88, of Rockville, passed away at 2 a.m. Thursday morning, September 19, 2019, at Union Hospital Clinton.

Born May 12, 1931, in Rockville, she was the daughter of Lawrence E., Sr. and Sylvia (Nevins) Overpeck. Her husband, Thomas A. McMurtry, whom she married March 10, 1956, in Rockville, survives. They enjoyed 63 years of marriage.

She was a 1949 graduate of Rockville High School and continued her education in Chicago, Illinois, at Moody Bible Institute. Inez and Tom were co-owners of Overpeck Hardware and Appliance Store in Rockville with her brother Bill Overpeck and his wife Wanita. They retired in 2017 after owning and operating McMurtry’s Usedful Furniture store also in Rockville.

Inez was a member of the First Baptist Church of Rockville. She played the organ for church services, taught children’s Bible Club and was also a Sunday school teacher.

She is survived by three children, son Greg (Tina) McMurtry of Kingman; two daughters, Karen (Scott) Sheetz of Rockville and Debra McMurtry of Florida; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and six brothers, Edgar, Raymond, Marion, Kenneth, Wilbur (Bill) and Lawrence “JR” Overpeck.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, September 23, 2019 at First Baptist Church in Rockville with Reverend Garry Jones officiating. Burial will follow at Memory Garden Cemetery in Rockville. Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m., Sunday, September 22 at the church. Memorial donations may be made to First Baptist Church of Rockville, 1250 South U.S. 41, Rockville, IN 47872. Envelopes will be available at the church. Care and arrangements have been entrusted to Butler Funeral Home, Rockville.
