Bill Overpeck - Class Of 1946

Wilbur L. "Bill" Overpeck, 86, of Rockville passed away June 6, 2015 at Clinton Gardens Nursing Home in Clinton.

Born June 30, 1928 in Parke County, Indiana, he was the son of Lawrence Overpeck Sr. and Sylvia Nevins Overpeck.  

Bill married Waneta Martin on July 2, 1950 in Rockville, she survives. 


He was the owner of Overpeck's Hardware and Appliance in Rockville. As a member of the First Baptist Church of Rockville, he held many offices and taught Sunday school for 52 years. He also ministered to the inmates of the Parke County Jail when it was located on the square next to his store. Bill was a former president of the ARC which later became part of Child Adult Resource Services in Rockville. He coached little league baseball in Rockville for 12 years and umpired many baseball and softball games at Beechwood Park in Rockville. Bill enjoyed making people smile and was a great influence on many lives. 

 Bill graduated from Rockville High School in 1946 and served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War.  


Bill is survived by his wife, Waneta Overpeck of Rockville; 4 Children, Lucinda "Cindy" Moore of Franklin, Tennessee, Ashley Overpeck (Melanie) of Rockville, Doug Overpeck (Regina) of Rockville, and Gary Overpeck (Claudia) of Rockville; 14 Grandchildren and 7 Great-Grandchildren. He is also survived by a sister, Inez McMurtry of Rockville and a brother Kenneth Overpeck of Kingman. 

He is preceded in death by his parents; 1 son, Randall and 4 Brothers.   

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 am on Wednesday, June 10, 2015, at the Rockville First Baptist Church with Reverend Garry Jones officiating. Burial will follow at Memory Garden Cemetery in Rockville. 

 Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, June 9, 2015 at the Rockville First Baptist Church.
