Samuel Clifford Adams was born on February 12, 1912 in the New Discovery community to Oscar and Lucretia (Fisher) Adams. He graduated from Hanover College and then went on to the State University of Iowa and earned his Master's (1940) and Ph.D. (1942). He enlisted in the Army and served in WWII where he was injured on November 11, 1944. He lost his sight as a result of his injuries. He returned to the States and to Hanover College and started teaching geology in 1945. He remained close to his family in Parke County (brother Paul - class of 1936 and sister Emily - class of 1941). He and his wife (Blanche) remained in Hanover until his death on August 13, 1970.
