John Hudson - Class Of 1953

John Hudson

John Hudson of Crawfordsville passed away peacefully with his children by his side on Friday, April 24, 2020, at the Wellbrooke facility in Crawfordsville from luekemia. He was 84 years old.

Born Sept. 7, 1935, at Rockville, John was the son of Harry Allen and Helen Opal Hudson. In addition to his parents, his older sibling Phyllis Ann also preceded him in death. John married Roberta Sue Plummer in Rockville in 1957, and they were married for 51 years. Roberta passed away in 2008. John and Roberta were members of the First United Methodist Church.

John is survived by son Russel (Jeannie) of Salem and daughter Ronda Peetz (Darrell) of Greensburg, along with three grandchildren, Andrew Hudson (Aubrey), Stephanie Peetz and Matthew Hudson (Dany); great-grandchildren, Rowen and Asher Hudson; and sister-in-law Carolyn (Phil) Weatherman from Rockville.

John was a 1953 graduate of Rockville High School, where he played basketball. After high school he served in the National Guard. John worked for RR Donnelly & Sons for 41 years, the majority of those years as a supervisor. Upon retirement, John and Roberta enjoyed winters in Avon Park, Florida residing on a golf course. John enjoyed yard work and tending to his rose garden. He loved playing golf and watching his grandkids play sports. His favorite teams were the Detroit Tigers in baseball (who his cousin Dizzy Trout played for in the 1940’s) and Wabash College football (who his grandson Matt played for from 2006-2009).

John was blessed to have met Donna Kahle while they both volunteered as red coats at the hospital. John and Donna enjoyed a decade of each other’s company and friendship and she loved John’s family as her own. John also loved Donna’s three children and their spouses, Brenda Horn (John), Terri Carpenter (Kenny) and Julie Sims (Doug), all of Crawfordsville; and Donna’s grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

John’s family is thankful and appreciative of the wonderful care he received at Wellbrooke from their amazing staff.

With the current health restrictions, a private funeral service will be held for immediate family on Saturday at Burkhart Funeral Home, followed by burial at Memory Gardens, Rockville.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Montgomery County Community Foundation, 119 E. Main St., P.O. Box 334, Crawfordsville, IN 47933.
