Charles Ray Bemis

ROCKVILLE-Charles Ray Bemis, 82, of Rockville, Indiana passed away Wednesday, April 28, 2021 in his residence. 

He retired from R.R. Donnelley and Sons in Crawfordsville serving as a shipping supervisor and later working in logistics with 43 years of service. 

He was born July 3, 1938 in Carbon, Indiana to the late Lenny Lincoln Bemis and Mildred White Bemis. 

Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Sandra Forrest Bemis whom he married April 15, 1961 in Rockville; also surviving, one son, Charles Bradley Bemis of Atlanta, Georgia; two daughters, Mary Elizabeth (Tom) Bumgardner of Zionsville and Bethany Britt (Norm) Lowery of Terre Haute; four grandchildren, Norman Forrest Lowery, Mary Elizabeth Lowery, Charles Hopper Bumgardner and Thomas Wrigley Bumgardner. 

He was preceded in death by a brother, Lennis Bemis. 

He was a 1956 graduate of Rockville High School and Indiana Business College with an accounting degree. He served with the Indiana Army National Guard during the Vietnam War. He was a member of the Rockville First United Methodist Church, Parke Masonic Lodge # 8, Rockville Rotary Club, Parke County Golf Club Board, Indiana State Senior Golf Association serving as President and Director and many years as a Board member and charter member of Rockville Elk’s lodge #2471. He also served 28 years as a sports broadcaster for WAXI radio for area basketball, football, and baseball games. In 2003 he was named a Sagamore of the Wabash by then Governor Frank O’Bannon. 

Services will be 2:00 pm Saturday, May 8, at Gooch Funeral Home, 112 W. Howard Street, Rockville. Burial will follow at Memory Garden Cemetery, Rockville. Visitation is from 12 noon until 2:00 pm Saturday at Gooch Funeral Home.
