Joe Tolin

Joe R. Tolin, 79, of New Market, passed away Wednesday morning at home with family by his side.

Joe worked at R.R. Donnelley for 17 years, after which he bought New Market Welding in 1976 and operated it until he and Irma retired on Jan. 1, 2004. They wintered in Florida the past ten years and had many friends there who often referred to Joe as McGuyver for his ability and willingness to repair or change most anything. He enjoyed fishing when the weather in the Bay allowed and play golf with his buddies. During the summers, he enjoyed doing general maintenance at Turkey Run Golf Club and played golf there. 

Joe was a proud member of the Elks Lodge #483 and served as Exalted Ruler three times, most recently in 2010-11.  He was also a member of the Fraternal Order of the Eagles, Indianapolis Murat Shrine, Indiana Masonic Lodge, and past member of the MOOSE.

Born Oct. 24, 1941 at home in Florida Twp., Parke County, he was the son of Roy W. Tolin and Ina Mae Spaw Tolin.  He attended school at Coxville and Rosedale, then went to and graduated from Rockville High School.  He took the ag short class at Purdue.  He married the love of his life, Irma (Henseler) Tolin on June 30, 1988 at Daytona Beach, FL.  She survives.

Surviving family includes: wife, Irma Tolin of New Market; two sons Jeffrey J. Tolin of Crawfordsville, Mitchell L. Tolin; daughter, Tracey (Scott) Andres of Las Vegas; three grandchildren, Creed (Shelby) Tolin, Mallory Tolin (fiance’ Joseph Galloway), Dregan (Kiyana) Baumgardner; step-son, Larry P. (Jennifer) Meadows with their daughter, Addison as well as three other step-grandchildren, Ashley, Kyle and Casey; two sisters, Marilou Cox of Mecca, Sue Ann Tolin of Blacksburg, VA; brother, James W. (Carol) Tolin of Terre Haute. He also leaves his neighbor and good buddy Phil Harrison in Indiana and Richard Larose and Russ Korback when in Florida. He will be missed by many, and remembered as a great man.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, John Tolin, and daughter-in-law Connie Tolin
