What can I say about Esther Chezem? First and foremost she was a nurse. If you ever got sick, chances are she saw you and she probably saw a lot more of you than many of your friends. If you were a patient of Dr. Bloomer's, she probably gave many of you a shot in the buttocks; more than once. Those flu shots were bad even way back then.

She graduated from Rockville High School in 1944. She got her diploma as a registered nurse from Indiana University School of Nursing in Indianapolis. She was also a U.S. Cadet Nurse Corps Member during World War 11 She wore that Army cape with pride for many years to follow. In fact, I don't remember when she stopped wearing it.

She was active in her community for many years. After leaving Dr. Bloomer's employee she went on to become the director of nursing at the Vermillion Convalescent Center in Clinton, IN. She served on the Parke County Board of Health for several years. She was a member of Eastern Star, chapter no. 177; VFW Paul Taylor Post No.1752 Auxiliary. She also served on the board of the Parke County Unit of the American Cancer Society. She was an active member of the Rockville Christian church for many years until she moved to Texas in 2000.

She was married to Ralph Junior Chezem for 48 years and where one went the other wasn't far behind; until Ralph left her by his death in 1995. They were pillars of their community and are sadly missed by family and friends. She died on July 18th 2005.

She was good nurse, good mother, and good friend to many.
