Ned R. Baker, 80, Kokomo, passed away at 3:57 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 20, 2013, at Kindred Transitional Care in Kokomo. He was born Dec. 7, 1932, in Kokomo, to the late Carl W. and Maude G. (Jones) Baker. His marriage to the former Beverly A. Dugan, who survives, was Aug. 6, 1955. They were married for 56 years.
Ned was a 1951 graduate of Rockville High School. He was in the Army National Guard and a member of the Sons of Union Veterans. Ned worked at Delco, where he was a member of UAW 292. He devoted a lot of time to Boy Scouts. He was a scoutmaster of Troop 528 in Greentown, a Wood Badge graduate and staffer, and a lifetime member of the NRA. He helped bring the Civil War cannon to Kokomo.
Survivors include his wife, Beverly A. Baker; two sons, Aaron L. Baker, wife Amber, and Kevin D. Baker, wife Ritta; six grandchildren, Wendie Baker (Joe Wolfe), Michael Baker (Cindi), D.J. Baker, Wesley Baker (Rachel), Brandy Burnham (Scott) and Kevin R. Baker (Caitlin); 12 great-grandchildren; and a sister-in-law, Marrietta Dugan.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother and four sisters.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Ellers Mortuary, Webster Street Chapel, 3400 S. Webster St. Services are 10 a.m. Friday at the mortuary, with the Rev. Ken Spangler officiating. Entombment will follow at Sunset Memory Gardens Mausoleum. There also will be military rites provided by the U.S. Army and the Kokomo military rites team at the cemetery.
Memorial contributions in memory of Ned may be made to the Sons of Union Veterans. Envelopes will be provided at the mortuary.
