Jeanne Reeder (Potts) - Class Of 1975 VIEW PROFILE

Jeanne Reeder (Potts)

Dr. Jeanne Potts, DNP, 64 of Westfield, IN, passed away peacefully in her home on the morning of June 21, 2021 with her family by her side.
Jeanne was born May 1, 1957, in Terre Haute, IN, the daughter of James and Patricia Reeder (née Mahurin). The family moved to Rockville when Jeanne was young, where she enjoyed life in a small town. After graduating from Rockville High School in 1975, she completed her BS in Nursing at Indiana State University in 1980.
Jeanne was a lifelong educator and learner. She received her Women’s Health Nurse Practitioner degree from Indiana University in 1985. In 2011, she completed her Family Nurse Practitioner Post Masters certification from Indiana State University. She was proud to be an Associate Professor of Nursing at Indiana State University. Students respected and appreciated Jeanne, inspired by her kind nature and distinctive ability to tell them what they needed to hear, even if they may not have been ready to receive it.
Her academic career culminated with a Doctorate in Nursing Practice from Indiana State University in 2016. At the time of her passing, she was Associate Professor and Assistant Director of the DNP-FNP Program at Marian University College of Nursing.
In addition to her academic pursuits, Jeanne was a Family Nurse Practitioner, seeing patients as one of the first nurse practitioners in the Wabash Valley in 1994. She practiced with both Dr. Charles French and Dr. Steven McDonald in Terre Haute and Brazil, working with Providence Medical group and St. Vincent Medical Group. She later obtained her Family Nurse Practitioner Degree, in addition to her Women’s Health Nurse Practitioner. After moving to Westfield, she joined the Community Health Network, where she continued to see patients and teach. Jeanne achieved these accomplishments, and more, while fighting her own battle with breast cancer not once, but twice.
Jeanne was a dedicated learner, but she was also a patient advocate and fiercely loyal friend. She has true friends, from all walks of life that she loved with all her heart.
On June 7, 2008, Jeanne was united in marriage to Charlie Potts, and together they have enjoyed life. They have enjoyed ISU Basketball, St. Louis Cardinals baseball, beach vacations on the west coast of Florida, and holiday celebrations with friends and especially family. Jeanne also created beautiful crochet items for family and friends. Jeanne had a lifelong love of dogs, and she and Charlie have two dogs, Tux and Lou.
Jeanne leaves behind her devoted husband Charlie; her daughter Dr. Jesse Clark and husband Neil Clark; her son, Jacob Peacock, and wife Kelly Peacock, all of Indianapolis; stepson Michael Potts of Ruskin, FL; grandsons, Owen and Eli Clark; her brother Tony Reeder and sister-in-law, Darlene Reeder of Rockville; two nieces, Amy McAlister and Erin Vita; her sister-in-law, Amy Cohn; several great-nieces and nephews; and many devoted friends and colleagues.
At her direction, cremation was chosen. A Memorial Service to Celebrate Jeanne’s life will be held Saturday, June 26, 2021, at the Lawson-Miller Chapel, 1702 E. National Ave. Brazil, IN. 47834. Friends may gather from 5-7 with a service beginning at 7:00pm. Pastor Tim Russell will officiate, and other friends will share remembrance.
Friends are encouraged to honor Jeanne with donations to Jeanne’s Journey 2.0, https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/jeannes-journey2021 , or to their charity of choice. Post a note of condolence to www.lawson-millerchapel.com
