Michael E. Young, 76, of Rockville, passed away December 8, 2023, at his residence. Born August 4, 1947, in Mecca, Indiana, he was the son of Archie and Leona Birch Young. He married Pat A. Cornwell, who survives him, on October 1, 1966, in Terre Haute.

Mike graduated from Rockville High School in 1965 and the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy in 1972. He was the Chief Deputy for the Parke County Sheriff’s Department from 1969 to 1977 and served as a Parke County Commissioner from 1984 to 1988. Mike was a Shift Captain at Newport Chemical Depot for 34 years, retiring in 2008.

Mike was a member of the St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Rockville. He was the Charter President of the Parke-Vermillion F.O.P. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus and former member of Parke Lodge #8, F&AM, and Scottish Rite.

Mike was known for his fabulous wit. He had a great love for cars, racing, and motorcycles.

He is survived by his wife, Pat Young of Rockville; 3 children, Michael Todd Young (Paula) of Clinton, Cammila J. Cody (Jim) of Rocky Fork, and James Matthew Young (Sue) of Terre Haute; 9 grandchildren; and 2 great-grandchildren. Also surviving is a brother, Richard Young (Peggy) of Greenfield, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Mike is preceded in death by his parents; grandson, Alex Young; and sister, Joetta Bennett.

Graveside services will be held on Monday, December 11, 2023, at 3:00 p.m. at Memory Garden Cemetery in Rockville, with Father Joby Puthussery officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Catholic Charities Terre Haute, PO Box 3318, Terre Haute, IN 47803.

Sandy Asbury (Beale) (1965)

I remember Mike as always being courteous and pleasant to me in high school.  I am sad to lose another classmate from my high school class of 1965.  I pray for his wife and family that God will bless them and keep them in His care.  May Mike rest in peace.

Bill Mahan (1965)

I remember Mike well. Mike was always quite and polite. Hey don't get me wrong Mike may have been polite, but he was always ready to have a good time. I will miss him a lot. Pat you have my deepest sympathy, you will be in my thoughts and prayers.
